The alleged theft of a defibrillator from a garage on the Isle of Wight has prompted outrage and a police investigation today (Wednesday, April 30).
Hampshire and IW Constabulary were called shortly before 2.20pm following reports that a defibrillator had been stolen from Sandford Garage, off Shanklin Road.
According to initial reports, the cabinet – which had been installed on an exterior wall of the garage – was forcibly opened, and the life-saving equipment taken from inside.

A police spokesperson said it is “unconfirmed at this time when the theft occurred.”
The incident has sparked condemnation from members of the community and local organisations.
A spokesperson for the charity IOW Defibrillators commented: “If it was needed in an emergency, I understand, please let us know.
But, if it was broken into and stolen, then you are the lowest, and I just hope you or your family never need a defibrillator to save a life.”
Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
