More than 1,500 homes have been left without electricity this morning (Wednesday, March 26) following a major power cut on the Isle of Wight, affecting areas between Newport and Shanklin.

The unplanned outage, first reported shortly before 10.10am, is impacting approximately 1,539 customers across 123 postcodes.
The worst affected areas include Arreton and Apse Heath, with widespread disruption between Long Lane in Newport and Lower Hyde Holiday Park in Shanklin.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) has confirmed that engineers are on their way and are expected to arrive on-site imminently.
Once on location, they will begin investigating the fault and working to restore power as quickly as possible.
A spokesperson for SSEN said: “We’re aware of a power cut in the area shown, affecting 1,539 homes.
At this stage, we’re aiming to have your power restored by 12:30pm.”
UPDATE 11.35am:
Engineers have been on site for around one hour and the estimated customers affected has been cut down to 149, across 33 postcodes.
UPDATE 1.30pm:
The same number of postcodes and customers remain affected, with SSEN aiming to restore power by 2pm.
