Two new semi-detached houses could be built in Gurnard

Jonathan Reece and Clare Hensall have applied to the Isle of Wight Council to build two semi-detached houses on a vacant brownfield site next to 33 Solent View Road in Gurnard, a three-bedroom detached property which the applicants are also seeking to enlarge.

Domestic garages on the disused plot to the west of 33 Solent View Road are currently being demolished.

A Design and Access Statement written by Hollis Design said: “The two new properties are modern in design, embracing the time in which they are conceived.

“Overall shape echoes Scandinavian Longhouses, sharpened and presented in a contemporary material palette - a style replicated widely in the local area, including Solent Lawns, Solent Shores, and numerous one-off new builds in Worsley Road, Solent View Road, and Lower Church Road.

“Proposed materials are deliberately different in colour from the main house, following those recently approved on nearby dwellings.

“The roofs are dark grey standing-seam (single ply membrane) and slate; walls of warm natural tones from timber cladding and off white/cream coloured render.

“The new dwellings will create the addition of pedestrian access to the pavement. A lamp post does require relocating uphill by two metres at the applicant’s expense which is agreeable to all parties.”

Island Roads made no objection, subject to highway safety requirements to create a four vehicle parking space within the application site and relocating existing street lighting and a bus stop flag.

A public consultation on the proposal will end on January 31 and a council decision is expected to be made on February 25.
