A MAN caught using a mobile phone while at the wheel of his Volkswagen Charan car, will hope to persuade magistrates not to ban him from driving when he next appears in court.
Yong Li, of Osborne Chase, Cowes, admitted using a mobile phone while driving, on Wootton High Street, on February 28.
He appeared before Isle of Wight Magistrates on Friday, December 6.
Li, with six points already on his licence, could be banned from driving under 'totting up' rules when sentenced on his next appearance.
However, the 57-year-old, who appeared in court unrepresented, hopes to get a probable ban suspended, citing 'exceptional hardship'.
Magistrates have agreed to provide a Mandarin or Cantonese interpreter for Li, a Chinese national, at his next hearing.
Li has been bailed to reappear for sentencing on January 28 next year.
If his argument is unsuccessful, he will be banned from driving for at least six months.
