Police have released an update following an incident involving two men and a dog, which led to a man allegedly resisting arrest last Friday (September 13).
As previously reported by the County Press, police were called to Newport town centre after receiving reports that two men, who had a small terrier-type dog, were ‘acting drunk and disorderly’ and being ‘abusive to members of the public’.

The incident is said to have happened at around 9.20am in the areas surrounding Newport Bus Station and St James’ Street.
Hampshire and IW Constabulary arrested two men and seized the dog, taking it to a place of safety.
In an update, police have confirmed that Terence Perkins, 39, of Barton Road, Newport, has been charged with being drunk and disorderly in a public place and resisting arrest.
He has been bailed to appear at the IW Magistrates’ Court on October 1.
Another man, a 59-year-old, has been bailed until December 13 while enquiries continue.
Police have been reviewing CCTV in the area and launched a public appeal for information.
A spokesperson for the force previously said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who directly witnessed what happened so we can establish the facts around what has taken place.
