Temporary traffic lights causing delays at The Graben in Ventnor will be removed by Friday, but more disruption is due next month.
Major works will take place from June 17 to prevent a sinkhole from appearing, Southern Water told the County Press.
A water leak in the area meant emergency works over the weekend, with the road partially dug up, and cordoned off.
Temporary traffic lights have been in place since.
A spokesperson for Southern Water said today: "We’re sorry for disruption caused at The Graben at Newport Road in Ventnor due to a water leak.
“Our teams fixed the issue, and the next step is we’re due to reinstate the road. We expect this work to be completed before Friday.”
The spokesperson said the planned closure from June 17 is for two weeks, "due to work to prevent a sinkhole from appearing".
Customer letters will be sent out, and more information will be available on the Southern Water website.
The Isle of Wight Council has previously announced that the road will be shut to allow for Southern Water sewer works, and acknowledged the disruption this will cause.
It means Whitwell will be the only route out of Ventnor, due to Leeson Road already being closed following a landslide in December.
The closure will be over the busy period of the Isle of Wight Festival, which takes place between June 20 and 23.
