An incident in Ryde town centre is being attended to by emergency services this morning.

The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary are at the scene on Cross Street, eyewitnesses have told the County Press.

It is understood a pedestrian may have been hit by a car.

Update: A police spokesperson said: "We received a report at 11am today of a road traffic collision at the junction of Union Road and Cross Street.

“Officers are currently at the scene and road closures are in place."

The IW Ambulance Service confirmed a duty officer is in attendance along with an ambulance and critical care paramedic.

Southern Vectis buses are diverting.

Routes 4,9 and 37 will leave Ryde via Dover Street, Park Road, Monkton Street, St John's Hill, West Street to continue normal route from the parish church.

Routes 2, 3 and 8 will leave Ryde via Dover Street, Park Road and continue normal route from Monkton Street.

The road is cordoned from Melville Street, and the crossroads at George Street is not passable.
