A NEWSAGENTS on the Isle of Wight has beaten more than 6,000 stores across the country, to win a national award.

Farnsworth's in Nodehill, Newport, has received the 'Store of the Quarter' award from independent parcel carrier, Yodel, in recognition of its outstanding customer support and service to the local community.

The Island store has handled more than 22,000 parcels in the last quarterly period, say Yodel, with a staffing complement of seven.

Celebrating its 50th year of trading, Farnsworth's is owned by Nick Farnsworth, who has run the store since it opened, a stone's throw away from its current position in St James's Street, in 1975.

“We have been in business for a long time and have won several awards, but this one is a real feather in our cap," said Nick.

Supporting people in the local area is at the heart of what newsagents do — especially in such tight-knit communities like Newport.

"The award came out of the blue. It's nice to be recognised for what we do locally," continued Nick.

"We have quite a slick operation — and we do it very well. Yodel has taken away some of our good practice into their national operation."

Yodel’s ‘Store of the Quarter’ awards recognise the highest service levels and customer satisfaction across its 'Deliver to Yodel Store' network of newsagents, convenience stores, petrol stations and supermarkets.

Yodel, which has been working with Farnsworth's the past three years, allows customers to have their parcels delivered to locations for collection at a time that suits them.

Also, Phil Best, a driver from the Island with Isle of Wight Distribution, who delivers more than 120 parcels a day on his route, was also selected for the 'Driver of the Quarter' award, which recognises drivers for their high delivery rates and customer service.

Phil has worked in partnership with Yodel for almost 12 years, for Yodel’s delivery partner on the Island.

Liam Rogan, Yodel's 'Out Of Home' director, said: "Farnsworth's have proven their importance to the local community and, have delivered a service that goes above and beyond for customers — delivering efficiency and convenience.

"We also commend Phil's efforts.”
