An Isle of Wight primary school has retained a ‘good’ Ofsted rating, with well-behaved students and happy staff.

Binstead Primary School was visited by the government’s education watchdog in late March, and the conclusion was it ‘continued to be a good school’ following the last inspection, in 2018.

The Ofsted report said pupils were resilient, determined, collaborative and curious learners as members of ‘Team Binstead’.

There is a calm and purposeful atmosphere in the school, and pupils behave well and get on well with each other, said inspectors, adding Binstead Primary is proud of its involvement and success in different sports and performing arts.

This curriculum breadth allows the pupils to become ‘rounded learners’, responding very well to these ‘high-quality opportunities’, said the report, and staff deliver phonics sessions ‘with precision’, meaning students, including those who find learning to read harder, become able and confident readers.

Binstead Primary identifies pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) early and accurately.

Behaviour is good, inspectors noted, and pupils have a positive attitude to their learning and take pride in their work.

Staff are said to be happy and proud to be a part of the school and feel well supported by all those around them.

Most parents are ‘very pleased’ with the school’s overall provision, with one reflecting the views of many, telling inspections it is “a wonderful school where it’s evident the staff go above and beyond to create a safe, friendly and exciting platform for my child to learn in.”

Rebecca Chessell, headteacher at Binstead Primary School, told the County Press: "We are incredibly proud to receive such a wonderful and positive report that truly reflects what it is like to be a part of Team Binstead.

"The report highlights the fantastic opportunities our children have through an exciting and enriched curriculum, and how they enjoy and are proud to be a part of Binstead Primary.

"We have excellent and committed staff, governors and volunteers who go above and beyond to support the needs of all of our pupils well.

"Our children were a credit to themselves throughout the process and conducted themselves beautifully.  We are very proud of them all."
