A PENSIONER accused of multiple sexual offences against children and young people, including rapes, appeared at an Isle of Wight court.

Keith Henry Matthews, of Mary Rose Avenue, Wootton, faced 13 charges when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court this morning (Tuesday).

No pleas were entered to the following:

  • Engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a girl, aged 13 to 15 years, on no fewer than ten occasions, in Ryde, between 2011-2014.
  • Indecent assault on a girl under 14 years, on no fewer than five occasions, in Ryde, between 1994-1995. 
  • Rape a female aged 16 years or over, in East Cowes, on February 1,1988.
  • Rape a female aged 16 years or over, in East Cowes, between February 1,1988 and February 28, 1988.
  • Gross indecency with a girl under 16 years, on no fewer than five occasions, in East Cowes, between October 3, 2003 and April 30, 2004.
  • Indecent assault on a girl under 14 years, on on fewer than five occasions, in East Cowes, between October 3, 2003 and April 30, 2004.
  • Rape a female aged under 16, on no fewer than five occasions, in East Cowes, between between October 3, 2003 and April 30, 2004.
  • Rape a girl aged under 13, on no fewer than ten occasions, in East Cowes, between May 1, 2004 and October 2, 2008. (two identical charges)
  • Rape a girl aged between 13-15 years, on no fewer than five occasions, between October 3, 2008 and October 2, 2011. (two identical charges)
  • Sexual activity with a female child, aged between 13-17, on no fewer than five occasions, in East Cowes, between October 3, 2011 and October 2, 2012 (two identical charges)

The 71-year-old was bailed to reappear for a plea and trial preparation hearing at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on June 24.
