A main Isle of Wight town centre route is now fully open after highway improvement works were completed ahead of schedule.

Roadworks started at Church Litten — one of the busiest routes into Newport town centre — last Tuesday (May 7).

The phased project, led by Island Roads, has caused major traffic disruption at St George's roundabout, and nearby roads, due to the diversion.

The long-term improvements were expected to take nine working days to complete, but Island Roads has confirmed today (Wednesday, May 15) that the road has been fully opened.

A spokesperson said: "Highway improvement work in Church Litten, Newport, has been completed ahead of schedule and the road is now fully open.

"Thanks for your co-operation during work — this has helped us keep complete the project sooner than planned."
