Firefighters were called to rescue a horse on its side in a bank on the Isle of Wight this morning (Wednesday).

At around 6.30am, crews from Newport and Shanklin were called to the scene near Arreton.

The horse was found on its side down a bank off Burnt House Lane.

Using animal rescue equipment, the horse was moved to a safe location and left in the care of a vet.

Fire crews stood down at around 8am.
