A SPEEDBOAT which collided in Gosport Marina, had earlier crashed into the harbour wall in Cowes, police and the coastguard have confirmed.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary were called by the South Central Ambulance Service just before 11pm last night (Saturday) that a speedboat that had crashed in Gosport Marina, which left three on board the speedboat injured and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

It was reported the boat had earlier that evening collided with the harbour wall in Cowes.

The coastguard also sent out Hillhead Coastguard Rescue Team and Gosport Inshore Independent Lifeboat to assist.

Police say inquiries into both incidents are ongoing.

However, neither the police or the Maritime and Coastguard Agency are able to confirm if the earlier incident in Cowes was linked to multiple 999 calls to Solent Coastguard, reporting a small boat had collided with the breakwater in East Cowes.

The emergency calls subsequently sparked a full-scale land, sea and air coastguard rescue search at 9.20pm last night and continued extensively in the Cowes, East Cowes and upper Medina area, into the early hours of the morning (today, Sunday, April 21). 

The operation was eventually halted at around 12.30am after nothing was found.
