POLICE are investigating a possible 'dangerous' dog incident after a woman reported she was bitten by one in an Isle of Wight town.

An incident in Ryde was reported to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary on Thursday (April 18). 

"We have received a report a woman was bitten by a dog at approximately 1pm," the police said.

The woman said on social media she only felt able to contact the police after the shock wore off and described the dog as "not friendly or muzzled" .

"It was reported the dog had bitten the woman, in her 30s, on her leg as she was walking along Spencer Road.

"She sustained minor injuries as a result. An investigation into this incident is underway and our inquiries are ongoing."
