The Isle of Wight's sustainable fashion degree students are opening a concept store to sell garments they have created.

A shop will open, initially for one day only, on the first floor of the former Wadhams and TopShop store in the heart of Newport.

It is the launch event for the students, who now occupy the building, and they have timed the pop-up event to celebrate Fashion Revolution Week.

The concept store Fashion Futures will be open on Saturday, April 27, from 10am to 4pm.

During the first semester of the Platform One Sustainable Fashion degree programme, students sourced pre-loved garments and textiles that tell a story.

In their current business project, the areas of study for the students include design and production, mending and repair, community, industry liaison, merchandising and marketing.

Fashion Futures will have garments available to buy (cash only) which have been handmade by the students, with fabrics donated from the community.

The ethos is to value and celebrate the skills of textile workers, and to give fabric a second life.

The students will also be holding sustainable fashion workshops, and giving an insight into their course.

The students are looking forward to opening the doors of their university premises to the public, and having the opportunity to sell the garments they have created.
