A LOUD bang woke residents up on Perowne Way in Sandown just before 2am this morning (Saturday) when a car careered off the road into a front garden.
The Mini was abandoned by the driver, according to eye-witnesses, and was later removed by a recovery vehicle.
A local resident said: "Airbags were deployed and smoke was billowing out of the engine."
The County Press was told the driver fled the scene.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary have been asked for a statement.
