A FUNDRAISER has been set up to help raise money for Cowes businesses affected by last week's flooding.

More than £2,000 has already been donated to the GoFundMe (click here to donate).

The fundraiser was set up by chef Paul Thorley and family, who kickstarted the campaign with a £500 donation.

It's to help mitigate losses, costs incurred and add to the community spirit.

He said: "Due to the location of these properties, many businesses can't be insured or, if they can be, carry a high excess with multiple exclusions.

"The high street is vital to Cowes, its residents, its visitors and the local economy. With proud and hard working business owners who for no fault of their own have incurred costs, disruption, extra work and loss of business.

"It's another blow, after Covid lockdowns and all the associated problems that caused to small businesses and just as the economy is recovering, holiday season is upon us, this is the last thing they needed.

"I saw one lady burst into tears when she got to her shop on Tuesday morning, their pride and joy, their livelihood, their business just devastated."

He urged anyone who is able to donate, to support the businesses.

All monies raised will be given to businesses on the High Street that are directly affected by the flooding.
