A man detained on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent, following a crash on Medina Way in Newport on the Isle of Wight yesterday (Wednesday, April 10), has been further arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving without insurance and drink driving.

A Honda Civic involved in the crash had been reported stolen from the car park of Lushington Garden Centre, between 7.30am and 11am yesterday morning.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary initially said the collision involved three cars, but a spokesperson has since said four vehicles crashed.

The other vehicles involved were a blue BMW X5, black Kia Sorrento, and grey Nissan Qashqai.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and dash cam footage.

Officers were called at 11.22am yesterday, to reports of a collision on the southbound carriageway of Medina Way.

The road was shut for a time and minor injuries were reported.

A 25-year-old man arrested, remains in custody.

A spokesperson for the force said:  "We would like to speak to any witnesses of this collision, and anyone with relevant dash cam footage.

"We would particularly like to speak to anyone who saw any of the vehicles travelling on Fairlee Road, Coppins Bridge or Medina Way prior to the collision."
