A three-car crash prompted the emergency closure of the Isle of Wight’s dual carriageway this lunchtime (Wednesday, April 10).

Three vehicles, including a red Honda Civic ep3 type-R, were involved in the collision on Medina Way shortly before 11.30am.

The incident happened around 150 metres from the Medina Way junction (formerly roundabout) on the southbound side of the dual carriageway, towards Coppins Bridge.

Debris was sent across the road and the safety barriers on either side of the highway were damaged, with the the Honda suffering significant front and back-end damage.

Emergency teams, including police, fire and ambulance crews, were sent to the scene and the dual carriageway was closed, with Newport-bound traffic diverted via Hunnyhill and Dodnor Industrial Estate.

The outbound lanes, towards Forest Road and Cowes, remained open as usual.

Although one man was taken to hospital as a precaution, no serious injuries were reported, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said.

A 25-year-old man from Ryde was arrested at the scene on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent.

Bartletts Service Station recovered the damaged Honda, while Island Roads cleared up the debris swept to the side of the road by officers.

The road was opened to single lane traffic by 12.30pm, and was fully reopened at 1pm.
