THE candidates in the running to become the next police and crime commissioner for the Isle of Wight have been revealed.

Polling cards should have already arrived, ahead of a vote on May 2, between 7am and 10pm.

Since 2021, the position has been filled by Conservative Donna Jones, former Portsmouth City Council leader and magistrate.

Donna is standing again, as is Labour's Becky Williams, a councillor on Rushmoor Borough Council.

Also in the running is Liberal Democrats’ Prad Baines, and the Justice and Anti-Corruption Party’s Don Jerrard.

The role of a police and crime commissioner is designed to hold the force's Chief Constable to account.

The job also involves setting the budget and the priorities for force, as well as providing strategic oversight.

To stand, candidates had to pay £5,000.
