An 18-year-old man from Newport has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and driving without insurance, and bailed until June 23, by Hampshire and IW Constabulary.

An 18-year-old man from Sandown was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and was released on bail until July 3.

Police were called to Ventnor Road, Whitwell, at about 4.40pm on February 25, after a collision involving a silver Mini One and a silver Volkswagen Golf.

A nine-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the Golf, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue crews from Ventnor, Shanklin and Newport, as well as paramedics, were called to the junction with St Lawrence Shute, prompting a road closure.
