A woman on the Isle of Wight has been left "very distressed" following an incident which allegedly saw a strange man follow her and shout abuse, police have said.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary is investigating reports of a man pursuing a woman through the streets of Ryde on Wednesday, April 3.

He shouted verbal abuse at her throughout the encounter, the force said.

The woman was not hurt but was left very distressed by the incident.

This incident took place at around 8pm and the woman first encountered the man on Star Street, as he approached from Player Street.

Officers have visited the victim to support her.

They have also been conducting further enquiries including scoping for CCTV.
