A 17-year-old arrested following a serious crash in Havenstreet on the Isle of Wight has been released under investigation.

Eight people were injured — two seriously — after a white Vauxhall Corsa and a white Skoda Rapid collided in the village on March 13.

It happened at the junction of Firestone Copse Road and Main Road.

A man in his 70s, a passenger in the Skoda, suffered what police called potentially life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

Isle of Wight County Press:

Another passenger in the same vehicle, a woman in her 60s from Ryde, also suffered serious injuries.

Six others sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the Corsa, a 17-year-old from Newport, was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and for causing serious injury by careless driving.

Police have since confirmed he has been released from bail under investigation, while enquiries continue.
