An Isle of Wight man has denied sexually assaulting a woman at a bus stop in Sandown last summer.

Anthony Ayres, of Atherley Road, Shanklin, pleaded not guilty to sexual assault on a female at the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, April 2.

It is alleged that shortly after 11pm on July 10 last year, the 56-year-old approached a woman after leaving the Number 8 Southern Vectis bus near Sandown Library and attempted to grope her.

Mr Ayres opted to have his trial heard at the Isle of Wight Crown Court.

The case has been adjourned until May 7, with Mr Ayres granted conditional bail.
