AN ISLE of Wight man found guilty at trial of using a motor vehicle with an unsafe tyre in London must fork out more than £1,000 in court fees.

Mohamoud Hassan Ismail, of Steephill Road, Ventnor, appeared before Lavender Hill magistrates on Friday, March 22.

The 74-year-old denied, and was found guilty at trial, of using a motor vehicle with a tyre with any of the ply/cord exposed, on January 16 of last year.

He used a Mercedes on South Audley Street in London when the front near side of the vehicle was fitted with a tyre which had the ply or cord exposed.

The court heard Ismail’s wife has a health condition, and the pair lived on the Isle of Wight where 'transport is limited'.

Ismail was fined £460 and ordered to pay costs of £620 and a £194 surcharge.

His driving record was endorsed with three penalty points.
