A crash involving a car and a pedestrian has closed a busy road in Sandown today (Saturday, March 16).

The collision happened earlier this afternoon on Station Avenue, a one-way street off Broadway, near the junction with Albert Street.

Police were called at 12.14pm to reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian.

Officers were quickly at the scene, alongside paramedic teams.

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson has told the County Press the pedestrian has suffered "minor injuries."

Station Avenue has been closed while emergency teams deal with the incident.

UPDATE 2pm: It is understood that Station Avenue has now reopened.

UPDATE 9pm: The pedestrian injured in the collision has posted in a Sandown Community Facebook group to thank those who stepped in to help her following the accident.

She says she is home now with a "bandaged head, but with no major damage."
