An Isle of Wight woman, caught by police driving with her daughter in the car while twice over the drink-drive limit, has been disqualified from the roads.

Lynsey Lee, of Creek Gardens, Wootton, attended the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, March 5, and pleaded guilty to drink driving and driving without insurance.

Lauren Stone, prosecuting, said on February 19, police noticed a Fiat 500 manoeuvring a U-turn in the middle of Wootton High Street.

Ms Stone told the court Lee was behind the wheel and blocked the road before police witnessed her reverse into a white Mercedes.

The 39-year-old was pulled over and, before failing a roadside alcohol test, told officers she did not realise she had collided with the vehicle.

The roadside test result showed Lee had 71mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, which is double the legal limit of 35.

Oscar Vincent, defending, said that earlier the same day, his client was told she was about to be made redundant.

Mr Vincent told the court, Lee, by chance, met a friend in Ryde and explained to her that she was being made redundant.

"By way of commiseration," Mr Vincent said, the friend suggested they both go for a drink, with the alcoholic drink Lee consumed being "stronger than she was aware of."

When Lee returned home, she got behind the wheel to take her daughter out, Mr Vincent explained.

She pulled over to the side of the road after spotting a police vehicle with blue lights on, but, "to her surprise," the police car stopped Lee.

Magistrates handed Lee an 18-month driving disqualification and ordered her to pay a £120 fine, £85 in costs and a £48 surcharge.
