A sell-out gala is being held tomorrow (Saturday), to raise funds for the students, young people and young adults of St Catherine's speech and language school in Ventnor - and a 'money can't buy' racing car experience is the star prize at an auction.

The event, at Lakeside Spa and Hotel in Wootton, will celebrate the school's 40th year as a registered charity.

The 90 guests, including governors, trustees, staff and supporters of the school, will be treated to music by Greg Barnes, a talk on the history of St Catherine's school, by Barry Reed, a three course meal and a DJ set, by Dan James.

The evening will culminate in a silent and grand auction.

Among the eclectic mix of lots, donated by island businesses, there is the chance to win a viewing of former world endurance champion Stuart Hall's ROFGO racing car collection.

How to bid on St Catherine's School's fundraising auction

St Catherine's School has 94 students, aged between 9 and 19, who come from both the Isle of Wight and across the UK.

The school offers both day learning and residential, for students with speech, language and communication needs.

The school is unique, in that it has an in-house team of occupational therapists and speech and language therapists.

As well as giving students opportunities to achieve a range of qualifications, it teaches life skills, including budgeting and employability.
