IT WAS the same old story yesterday (Saturday) with the Isle of Wight football programme falling foul of the weather — but two games survived.
Whitecroft and Barton Sports leapfrogged three clubs to go top of Division 1 of the Island League, after they hammered East Cowes Sports 8-0 at Newport's Sandy Lane ground.
Josh Appell bagged a hat-trick, while former Shanklin forward Kyle Drew scored twice.
Sam Yelland, Matt Evans and Sam Cant completed the scoring on a poor day for ECS, who remain second bottom.
The only other game to avoid postponement was between West Wight and Vectis in the third round of the Isle of Wight Memorial Cup, at Cowes Enterprise College's 3G pitch.
After going in 2-0 at half-time, West Wight would have felt confident of progressing to the quarter finals.
But Vectis turned the tie on its head, dramatically making it 3-3 deep into injury time.
The game then went straight to penalties, with Vectis dramatically winning it 4-2 to book their place in the last eight — keeper Carl Babbington the hero, saving two of the West Wight spot kicks.
