A MAN from the Isle of Wight has been arrested following a single vehicle collision in Cowes which left a woman with a head injury.  

Police were called at around 2.20am this morning (Sunday) following reports of a collision involving one vehicle at the junction of Newport Road and Mill Hill Road.

It was reported a car crashed into a wall and that an altercation took place between two people inside the vehicle.

Officers at the scene found a woman in her 40s, with an injury to her head, which required treatment.

"Her injury has been assessed as not life changing or life threatening," a Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said.

Police subsequently arrested a 33-year-old man from Ryde on suspicion of drink driving and common assault.

He remains in custody at Newport Police Station.
