Firefighters provided lighting for Isle of Wight Council's emergency planning team, and for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.

Today, County Hall's building team will assess the slope and the properties above, on Ocean View Road.

Zig Zag Road is partly closed, between Bellevue Road and Ocean View Road, making access tricky for homes in St Albans Gardens.

Police tape remains at the scene, including across a gate on a cut-through from Bellevue Road to Ocean View Road.

In a separate incident yesterday morning, Ventnor's Gills Cliff Road was closed after a land fall destroyed a set of traffic lights, at the junction with Castle Road.

Lower Gills Cliff Road remains partially closed, though there is through-access to Whitwell from the upper part of the route.

In December, a significant fall saw garden destroyed and properties evacuated at nearby Bonchurch.

Last night, an Isle of Wight Council spokesperson confirmed a landslide had occurred on Zig Zag Road.

As a safety measure, the affected area has been closed off to traffic, the statement added.
