A popular Isle of Wight seafront promenade will be closed early in March for essential improvements amid concerns for safety.

The IW Council has advised that work along the revetment between Sandown and Shanklin will start early next month.

The planned work will involve clearing cliff fall debris from the walkway and improving areas where there is water constantly flowing across the promenade.

Due to ‘constant vehicle and plant movements’ during the works, the revetment will be closed between March 4–11.

An IW Council spokesperson explained, “Public safety is our top priority.”

SSE will also carry out ‘essential works’ along the revetment from March 4 and has imposed a three-week closure using its emergency powers.
