JUST three properties out more than 1,200 hit by a major outage remain without power after engineers worked throughout the day in an Isle of Wight village.

Power will be restored to the remaining three affected properties in the PO38 area by 7pm tonight, say SSE.

The SSE said the outage affected 127 post codes in the Niton and Whitwell area, covering 1,235 properties.

The company has now re-estimated that power will be restored to the remaining three affected properties in the PO38 area by 7pm tonight (Wednesday).

“Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks engineers are on site working to restore supplies, after a fallen tree cut power to local homes and businesses," an SSE spokesperson said.

They were alerted by customers at 8.56am — around about the time the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called out to a telegraph pole fire in Southford Lane, Whitwell, caused by a fallen tree.
