An Isle of Wight man anonymously phoned his former partner and told her her "days were numbered", a day after she had given birth.

Edward McKendrick, of Oaklyn Gardens, Shanklin, appeared before magistrates on Friday, February 16.

He admitted one count of harassment without violence. The offending took place over two and a half weeks in July and August, 2023.

The court heard how the 47-year-old and his then partner had ended their eight year relationship, in October 2022.

She had blocked him on everything because there had been ongoing issues with him not leaving her alone, said Munayah Hassan, prosecuting.

In August, the day after she had had a baby, the woman received calls from an unknown number.

A voice at the end of the phone said "your days are f****ing numbered", before hanging up.

Court was told she knew it was McKendrick from his accent and was scared.

Ms Hassan said the woman knew he wouldn't actually kill her, but felt he could hurt her in the street.

Defending, Oscar Vincent, said the harassment amounted to five calls and one email.

He said McKendrick, who has 11 convictions for 16 previous offences, has no recollection of the phone calls but is not challenging the fact it happened.

Mr Vincent said McKendrick accepts the relationship is over, has not offended since and has no intention to contact her again.

Magistrates adjourned the case to April 5, for a pre-sentence report.
