A FUNDRAISER has been launched to help a brave young woman from the Isle of Wight who has just months to live.

Cassidy Ley, 19, of Ventnor, is in end stage heart failure with a prognosis of six to  12 months left to live, and she is receiving palliative care.

Cassidy, who went to St Francis Primary and The Island Free School, has a series of painful terminal medical conditions including a severe terminal rare genetic skin condition, severe dilated cardiomyopathy, ventricular tachycardia, scoliosis, joint dislocations and postural hypotension.

Her cousin Jodie Lacey has set up a fundraiser to help provide Cassidy with comfort, specialised equipment, and fun treats.

It is Cassidy's wish to leave a legacy for other young adults that are terminally ill on the Isle of Wight, too.

Jodie said: "Cassidy is the most selfless young lady and never ceases to amaze me with her smile, strength and resilience to all that she has had to endure since birth.

"Her family and friends really want her to enjoy the time she has left and to create lifelong memories together.

"Cassidy loves trips to the theatre, dining out and having as much fun as she can. She would love to travel but its not possible without very expensive insurance and assistance.

"As her condition deteriorates further she will also need help towards medical equipment allowing her to remain at home for as long as possible so she can have visitors.

"Any help would go towards funding a new made to measure wheelchair and a special medical bed.

"Cassidy has such complex health issues and is an inspiration to us all on how she has embraced her life so far, even volunteering at the local children's centre.

"This sudden news has impacted us all and I would love for Cassidy to be able to just do some really lovely fun things with her family and for her not to worry about anything she may need over the coming months."

More than £4,000 has been raised within two days of the fundraiser being launched.
