AN ISLE of Wight-based artist is among just 48 creatives selected to compete in the latest series of Sky Arts’ Landscape Artist of the Year – from more than 2,000 applicants.

An episode featuring Andy Ashdown’s heat will be broadcast on February 14, and takes place in Kent.

Vying for a place in the semi-final, competing artists are given four hours to paint a view of Hever Castle.

In addition to a senior role with the National Trust, Andy works as a designer and artist, specialising in landscape paintings.

Some of Andy’s original work can be viewed at the Seaview Art Gallery, where his pieces are also available to purchase.

For further details, visit Andy's website, or follow him on Instagram.

He was selected to take part in the series on the strength of his submission painting of Colwell Bay beach.

“After being a fan of the programme for years, I finally took the plunge and applied to take part,” said Andy.

“To be selected from so many talented artists is amazing.

“The day was hard work; the four-hour time limit is a challenge, and it certainly adds to the pressure.

“But it was an incredible experience, and it was a joy to meet everyone involved in making the series, and the members of the public who came along to support us all.”

Andy can be seen competing against seven other artists on the day, with a winner being selected by three prominent judges.

You can watch the programme on Wednesday, at 8pm, or a repeat on Thursday at 7pm.
