Firefighters have freed a man trapped in a car on its side in Newport on the Isle of Wight.

As first reported by the County Press, emergency services were called to Lugley Street at around 12.10pm.

Police, paramedics and firefighters have all been in attendance.

Two pumps - one from East Cowes and one from Newport Fire Stations - were called, alongside a rescue support vehicle.

A car ended up on its side on Lugley Street at its junction with St James Street, Newport.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said a man was freed by firefighters.

He is now in the care of paramedics.

The road remains blocked.
