A popular Isle of Wight seaside event has announced it will relocate to a new location for 2024 as planning continues ahead of this summer.

In past years, Shanklin Regatta - a fun-filled free family day – has been held on Shanklin Esplanade, on what was the old entrance of Shanklin Pier and the surrounding beaches.

However, the Regatta’s committee have planned to move the event 500 yards down the other end of the Esplanade to what is known as the ‘Stink Pot Car Park’ at the bottom of Hope Hill.

If you wish to volunteer to help at the 2024 event, there are roles in the shore sports, public safety, judging, on-the-day help and set up and pack down.

Lyn Fleming, chair of Shanklin Regatta, said: “Planning is well underway for the 2024 summer event, with some new plans and ideas, such as a market street for business and charities to trade from, a food and drink street, mixed in with an entertainment area with a stage area.

The Regatta will still hold the free shore sports, including tug-of-war, races and egg and spoon, which take place on Hope Beach.

Following last year’s event, organisers say they have listened to feedback and have changed the format of what was previously known as the ‘Beauty Queens’, which will now be called Princess and Princes.

Any traders wanting to get involved can apply from February 17 on the Shanklin Regatta website.

This year’s event takes place on Thursday, August 8.
