An investigation is underway after a 'reprobate' apparently stole hundreds of pounds worth of gas cylinders from a popular Isle of Wight garden centre.

Police were alerted this morning (Friday, February 2) to a theft which occurred overnight on Thursday (February 1).

Officers told the County Press 14 gas cylinders have been reported stolen from Busy Bee Garden Centre on Brading Road in Ryde.

The garden centre said in the early hours of Thursday morning it was visited by a 'reprobate who cut his way' into the centre's barbecue gas bottle cage.

Busy Bee reports that the man made multiple trips to the centre between 2am and 3am, loading bottles into a vehicle, but dropping a few along the way.

A police investigation is underway, and Busy Bee has provided Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary with CCTV capturing the incident.
