ISLE of Wight householders and businesses in the Wootton area are without power this evening (Wednesday).

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) says 32 postcodes have been hit by an unplanned outage.

The fault was reported at around 7.30pm and engineers are on site.

SSEN aims to restore power by 1am.

The outage predominantly affects Wootton, but parts of Whippingham and East Cowes have also been impacted.

"The cause of the power cut is a fault on our underground network," said a spokesperson for SSEN.

"In most cases, our engineers are able to restore power by simply replacing a fuse at the local substation, however, if the fault is severe, this may result in us needing to make full repairs which can take longer."
