Red Funnel has confirmed more afternoon and evening cancellations to its Isle of Wight ferry service amid ongoing technical issue.

Four sailings were cancelled yesterday (Tuesday) and a further six was announced for this morning.

The cross-Solent operator has now confirmed a further six cancellations into this this evening (Wednesday).

The disruption follows an issue with the Voith propulsion on the Red Eagle car ferry.

Red Funnel says the following timetabled sailings have been cancelled for Wednesday, January 31:

  • From Southampton - 1.30pm, 4.30pm and 7.30pm.
  • From East Cowes - 3pm, 6pm and 9pm.

What is the Voith propeller?

The Voith propeller, located at the bottom of the ferry, is built to be highly manoeuvrable, allowing the ship to change direction quickly.

A Red Funnel spokesperson said: "We apologise for any inconvenience to your journey."
