An Isle of Wight village convenience store is ushering in a new era with the opening of its improved shop… but expect to see a few familiar faces!

Vic’s Stores, at the old Roadside Inn on Nettlestone Green, was established in 1960 by original owners Vic and Jean Brading, with their son Charles, who has been employed at the shop since he was 14, taking over the family business in 1990, running the store with his wife, Linda.

But, after more than 100 years in the villages of Nettlestone and Seaview, the Brading/Sweet family have announced their 'retirement', ushering in a new era under brothers Pranay and Nick Patel.

The store, which will switch from a Londis to a Nisa Local, will continue to be known as Vic’s Stores, out of recognition for what former owners Charles and Linda have done for the Nettlestone community.

Nisa Local will continue to stock everything that customers have come to expect from the old store but boasts a bigger premises and a larger range of products.

Vic’s will also offer a frozen range of food by brand Cooks, a Tango Ice Blast machine and the addition of PerfectDraft kegs – with the store becoming one of the company’s official partners on the Island.

Customers can expect to see the same faces from the previous store, including the shock return of Charles and Linda, who will continue working flexibly at the store.

The previous store's closing time was 6pm, but the new owners have extended this to 9pm, with an opening time of 6am every day.

Pranay told the County Press: “This gives everyone a chance after work to come home, see what they require, and if they need anything, they can pop over.”

Vic’s Stores will reopen under the new era at 10am on Friday, January 26, with tea, coffee and biscuits available, ahead of the ribbon cut by Charles and Linda.

“We’re really excited to be working with the community on this,” Pranay said, “because I know how much it means to them.”
