A man has been charged by police, in connection with an alleged knifepoint robbery.
Hampshire and IW Constabulary is investigating a report in which a man said he was threatened, in St Thomas's Square.
Officers were called at around 11.40pm, on Thursday, January 18.
A phone and cash were stolen, say police.
22-year-old Harry White, of Holyrood Street, Newport, has been charged with robbery and possession of a knife in a public place.
He was remanded in custody, to appear before the IW Magistrates’ Court and is next due at the IW Crown Court on February 19.
