Public toilets on an Isle of Wight seafront have been vandalised "beyond anything we have seen before", a Ryde councillor has said.

An appeal for information has been launched by Ryde Town Council.

The men's loos in Appley have been closed as a result of the vandalism.

They were targeted over the weekend, the town council has said.

A post on Facebook reads: "If you happened to be in the vicinity of the gents toilets over the weekend and observed any unusual activity or noticed any damage, we kindly ask for your assistance in helping us determine the timeframe of the vandalism.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Toilet roll and a toilet roll holder can be seen strewn on the floor. A door also appears to have been ripped off its hinges.

Cllr Karen Lucioni said it is one of the worst cases of vandalism the town council has seen.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Ryde Town Council.
