A TEENAGE chef who collided into a truck on his Suzuki motorcycle while drug driving on cannabis, will learn his fate at an Isle of Wight court next month.

Kayden Yates, 18, of Shanklin, admitted drug driving, with no insurance and licence, in Wroxall on June 23 last year.

Police were called to the collision at the junction of St John's Road and Appuldurcombe Road, at around 10pm.

When the truck driver pulled out of the junction onto St John's Road, Yates, with no previous convictions, struck the back of the vehicle.

The truck driver claimed Yates had been speeding at around 60mph — twice the speed limit on St John's Road — and that he asked the truck driver not to call the police as he had no insurance.

The speed was disputed by Yates, which magistrates accepted.

After failing a roadside drugs swab, Yates was arrested and provided a blood reading of 3.70ug/L of the cannabis derivative THC, which exceeded the 2.0 limit, said Lauren Stone, prosecuting, at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court.

For Yates, Henry Farley said his client was remorseful and embarrassed about his actions.

Magistrates ordered a probation report, for sentencing on February 16.

An interim driving ban was imposed.
