Red Funnel has announced it will provide late-night Red Jet crossings whilst the operator upgrades its East Cowes car ferry berth.

The additional crossings will start on Saturday, January 20, and run on all Saturdays until March 16.

An 11.40pm sailing from Southampton and a 12.15am crossing from Cowes will be added to the Red Jet timetable.

The additions will provide foot passengers with an alternative option for travel to and from the Island whilst the works are carried out on the mooring arrangements in East Cowes, the ferry operator said.

The work is planned to take seven weeks, starting on January 20 through to March 20, and will feature an upgrade to the fendering system, which allows Red Funnel’s vessels to safely and securely berth,

To minimise disruption the works will take place overnight.

During this time, and to allow dive teams and on-site technicians to work uninterrupted, Red Funnel’s vehicle ferries will be unable to report or arrive in East Cowes – meaning some crossings will be temporarily removed from the timetable.

The timetable will vary depending on the day of the week, the operator said.

Leanna Lake, operational director at Red Funnel, said: “The safety of passengers and crew remains our priority, and we continue to invest in regular maintenance work across our operation.

“By completing the maintenance overnight and during our lower season, we have strived to impact the fewest number of customers as possible.

“Customers booked on affected crossings will shortly be contacted and offered an alternative sailing time.”
