A NEW cold weather yellow alert for the Isle of Wight has been issued, covering the next seven days and meaning a heightened risk of icy conditions.

From 12 noon today (Thursday) through to Thursday, January 18, the national Met Office and the UK Heath Security Agency is predicting cold and frosty conditions, meaning driving conditions on the Island's road may prove hazardous, particularly in rural areas.

There is also a warning it could escalate to an amber warning for some parts, on Sunday.

The current cold weather health alert tells us to expect sustained colder temperatures, which can adversely affect older people, and those with underlying health conditions.

Advice has been issued around how to keep warm, plug drafts in homes and stay healthy in colder weather.
