There are new weather warnings for wind and rain for the Isle of Wight, for today (New Year's Day) and tomorrow (Tuesday, January 2).

The national Met Office is warning of wind, from 8am tomorrow until 9pm.

It says: "Very windy conditions are likely to quickly develop over southwest England and southern Wale and then spread eastwards.

"In coastal areas, winds are likely to gust towards 60mph at times, with a lower likelihood of 70 mph gusts.

"Inland gusts of 40 to 50mph are likely, but with a smaller chance of 55 to 60mph gusts.

"This windy weather will be accompanied by heavy rain in places."

Fireworks, which were planned as part of Sandown's New Year celebrations, had already been cancelled by organisers.

The Isle of Wight has not been included in the Met Office's rain warning for other parts of the south, however, from 5pm today.

Meanwhile, the IW Met Service has issued a warning for heavy rain, from 8pm today until 4pm tomorrow (Tuesday).

It says two weather fronts could be between 20 and 40mm of rain, combined with strong winds gusting up to 60mph, over the next few hours.
