Comedian Marek Larwood, who lives on the Isle of Wight, secured cash for Mountbatten after winning an episode of Pointless Celebrities - shown on BBC One yesterday evening (Wednesday, December 27).

Moving to the Island after being born in Norwich and living in Wales, Marek attended Sandown High School with the County Press' very own co-editor Lori Little.

Marek also runs the Cool Dudes Walking Club YouTube channel, which features many Island locations on his travels.

He starred in a special celebrity edition of the BBC general knowledge quiz Pointless, in which contestants try to score as few points as possible, presented by Alexander Armstrong.

The Islander teamed up with comedian and television presenter Iain Stirling.

Marek correctly guessed his answer in round one and scored a low six, and, in round two, he was able to correctly identify Academy Award-winning actor Christoph Waltz from the photos, earning an even better score of two, sending the pair into the head-to-head round.

Marek and Iain swept away fellow comedians Johnny Vegas and Shaparak Khorsandi – the latter often spotted on the Isle of Wight, where she spends a lot of time – defeating them two-nil.

In the final, Marek and Iain were given a choice of topics, opting for ‘double achievers in the 90s’ and were tasked with finding one Pointless answer in three sub-categories.

The duo decided on dance band The Prodigy and footballers, Thierry Henry and Salvatore Schillaci.

Henry and Schillaci were incorrect answers, but The Prodigy – who will feature at Isle of Wight Festival 2024 – were confirmed as a Pointless answer, winning the pair £2,500 for their chosen charities.

Iain played for Tiny Changes, a Scottish mental health charity with a focus on young people, and Marek chose Mountbatten Isle of Wight.

The programme aired last night on BBC One (originally from June 2022), and is available to watch on BBC iPlayer until Friday, January 26.
