FOLLOWING a major landslip in Bonchurch earlier this week, Fort Victoria Country Park is now warning of significant land movement taking place in the area.

The movement is on the permissive path which runs along the woods between the sway viewpoint, from the wooden owl to the beach sign, and Fort Albert viewpoint, at the bottom of hurst view steps.

“A lot of these trees near the edge are being held up by fresh air,” said a spokesperson for the country park.

“Avoid this section of the woods altogether for the time being.

"The steps that connect the beach to the woods have gone completely and there is a pool of wet clay half way up the path from the beach.

"Don't let your dogs or children run up the steps as the clay looks very unsafe."

Back in November, the country park warned that after recent wet weather and slippages, there were some very steep drops that did not exist previously, urging members of the public to be careful and stay away from the edges when in the park.
